The best February retreats to book ASAP

Winter is coming (so book your vacay now).

by Clark Williams | 12.27.2018

For when your PTO days are precious and your trip-planning time is limited, there are retreats: organized escapes that have the added bonus of helping you master the yoga headstand, learn to prepare raw food, make it a week without talking, or just generally feel chill af.

While there’s sometimes “work” involved (hey, emotional breakthroughs don’t just happen), it’s a different kind of work than what you might usually deal with in the office and often happens far away from the stresses of everyday life. Best of all? You just need to show up at the retreat, and the rest is taken care of. (In case The Glassy’s ultra-curated city guides still require too much trip planning.)

Here are the top retreats around the globe this February—from long weekends to multi-day intensives—that are so worth the vacation days.

Surfing the Wave of Change retreat with Martha Beck in Scotts Valley, CA
When: February 1-3
What: Elizabeth Gilbert once said, “No human being on this planet has changed my life more than Martha Beck”—which isn’t the only reason to go to the PhD’s workshop, but it’s definitely a good one.

El Camino Travel trip to Cartagena and Medellin, Colombia
When: February 2-10
What: A week of salsa dancing, private beaches, volcano mud baths, and more from the adventure-centric tour co. Bonus: There’s a photographer who will be snapping pics all week long, so you can do that digital detox thing without missing out.

Boxing and the Beach with Nikki Campbell in Tamarindo, Costa Rica
When: February 7-10
What: Jab-jab-cross…but in paradise. Work Train Fight’s Campbell leads two-a-days (mornings are for high-intensity, evenings for technique) just steps away from the beach. If that doesn’t wipe you out, there are also surf lessons and kayaking excursions included–talk about a TKO.

Surf With Amigas surf retreat in Northern Nicaragua
When: February 9-15
What: Good vibes abound at this week-long surf camp founded by pro Holly Beck. There’s daily yoga, surprisingly delicious (and fueling) food, and an ongoing partnership with Waves for Hope (which runs community development programs). Not all their camps are co-ed friendly, but this one is.

Yogascapes Northern Lights retreat in Iceland
When: February 10-16
What: Seeing the northern lights IRL is truly one of the most mind-blowing things you can do. Add daily yoga sessions and visits to local hot springs and you’ve got what amounts to a bucket list-worthy trip.

Restival in Oaxaca, Mexico
When: February 13-18
What: Restival had us at “secret location.” This glamping-ish wandering festival promotes digital detoxing and authentic spiritual experiences in place of all-day drinking and late-night revelry—think Zapotec sweat lodge ceremonies, meditations atop ancient temples, and more.

Sky Ting Yoga and Love Yoga retreat in Marfa, TX
When: February 14-18
What: Whether your yogi of choice is Sky Ting’s Chloe or Love Yoga’s Kyle, you’ll def find your flow (and probably some pretty sick art installations, too) at their third iteration of this wild west retreat.

Sober Curious retreat with Ruby Warrington in Stockbridge, MA
When: February 15-17
What: This interactive weekend serves up a new way to approach drinking–via The Numinous’ Warrington, whose retreats always bring about a major OMG-WTF (in a good way) breakthrough moment.

Chica Brava surf retreat in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
When: February 16-23
What: If you’re dead-set on nailing your pop up by the end of the week, opt for Chica Brava rather than booking a room at Maderas Village. The ladies-only surf camp is less about the scene (although you’ll be staying right in the middle of San Juan del Sur) and more about the surf.

The Enneagram and the Inner Critic retreat in Stockbridge, MA
When: February 17-22
What: Got an inner critic you’re looking to tame? Or just searching for new dinner party fodder? Either way, you’ll want to head up to Kripalu for this workshop around the Enneagram and ways that you can truly use it to level up.

Yoga for Bad People retreat in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay
When: February 17-24
What: Yoga…with a heavy dose of fiesta time in Uruguay’s equivalent of Montauk. YFBP co-founder Heather Lilleston’s co-leading this trip, and though rooms in the main hotel are all claimed, there are still a few beds available at a nearby spot.

Coast to Costa in Peru
When: February 18-25
What: We don’t know anyone who has traveled with Coast to Costa (yet…) but we heart their ethos: local-obsessed, millennial-centric. They work out the details—from shaman-led hikes through ancient ruins to hiring a private chef for the week—which honestly is half the battle of planning a trip.

BYoga retreat in Baja, Mexico
When: February 23-March 2
What: Just in time for peak I-wish-I-was-hanging-out-at-Ditch-Plains season, our fave Montauk yoga studio is hosting a winter getaway to sunny Mexico. Pack a suit (and your rash guard) to use in between twice-a-days.

Cosmic Mind/Cosmic Body retreat with Sandy Sitron and Ashley Newsome in Cahuita, Costa Rica
When: February 24-March 1
What: Can’t decide on the type of retreat you want to go on? This one—featuring The Glassy’s fave astrologer Sandy Sitron and Brooklyn-fave yogi Ashley Newsome—alternates between stretchy sessions and star-centric workshops.

Sky Ting Yoga retreat in Isla Tiera Bomba, Colombia
When: February 28-March 4
What: Twice-a-day yoga/meditation sessions…on your own island…during the bleakest stretch of winter…. This is what long weekend dreams are made of.
