Take it home with you: Joshua Tree
Healthy high-desert souvenirs that you'll be tempted to keep for yourself.
Taking a piece of Joshua Tree home with you is tricky.
The California National Park’s namesake tree is strictly off limits (even more so, following extensive damage done during the government shutdown, which officials estimate could take 300 years for the landscape to recover), and no one’s figured out how to bottle the area’s incredible energy.
But while the natural wildlife is best left behind, the high-des destination is filled with artists, makers, healers, and artisans creating souvenir-worthy items that you can definitely fill your suitcase with.
From Snakeroot Apothecary oxymels to June Botanicals creosote smudge sticks, they all capture the essence of the area—and even better, are all affordable. (We’re talking $20 and under.)
Whether you’re gifting or keeping (which, BTW, yes you should), here are the best healthy(ish) souvenirs in Joshua Tree:
Snakeroot Apothecary Love Oxymel, $18
The perfect gift for anyone you heart (friend, lover, whatever). Even better is the most high-vibe of ingredients in every bottle: rose quartz essence.
Find it: Moon Wind Trading Co., 1141B Old Woman Springs Rd., Yucca Valley
Dust Ceramics Tumbler, $20
Use it for your a.m. coffee, use it for your p.m. bourbon—whatever you pour in this perfectly sized cup, it’ll look real cute.
Find it: Moon Wind Trading Co., 1141B Old Woman Springs Rd., Yucca Valley
Joshua Tree Coffee Co. The First Roast, $14
Brew your morning mug (ahem, see above) with this local blend—which is organic and roasted via a nearly zero-emission process —and you just might be able to convince yourself that you woke up early to go climbing at Sexy Grandma (rather than, you know, go to work).
Find it: Joshua Tree Coffee Company, 61738 29 Palms Hwy., Joshua Tree
June Botanicals Creosote Smudge Bundle, $12
Put down the sage (which is highly endangered, FYI) and pick up the creosote—a dominant shrub of the local landscape that, when burned, helps with alertness and clearing the mind.
Ceremonial Seeds de Cielito, $12
Organic? Check. Sprouted? Check. Delicious? Check. The only downside is you might finish off a bag while driving through the desert.
Find it: Joshua Tree Health Shop, 61693 29 Palms Hwy., Joshua Tree
Jenny Q’s Herbal Chill Out Tincture, $13.50
The name says it all: Between the blend of valerian, damiana, skullcap, kava, and more, this locally blended tincture will have you feeling aaaaah in no time.
Find it: Grateful Desert, 61695 29 Palms Hwy., Joshua Tree
Joshua Tree Candle Company Air Freshener, $6
Although they also make candles (duh), we heart the Joshua Tree Candle Company’s air fresheners because they’re sooo lightweight and easy to fit in your suitcase (which should be the standard of all souvenirs).
Find it: Cali Greens Cafe, 57754 29 Palms Hwy., Yucca Valley
Wool Felted Soap, $7.88
A soap that looks like a crystal you’d maybe find near the Integratron—but with the added benefit of extra exfoliation? Yes, please.
Find it: Joshua Tree Health Shop, 61693 29 Palms Hwy., Joshua Tree
